New Program Kicks Off To Reward Environment-Oriented Farmers/Ranchers

What: The Agricultural Certificate of Environmental Stewardship (ACES) program assists farmers and ranchers in their effort to protect the environment (natural resources) and remain sustainable. It also gives farmers and ranchers better access to a growing market driven by consumers who seek environmentally friendly agricultural products. 
 The ACES program kick off will be presented to the Utah Conservation Commission, and the public, in Layton on Nov. 12th.  

Who: LuAnn Adams, Utah Commissioner of Agriculture and Food; Walt Baker, Director Utah Division of Water Quality; Sterling Brown, VP Public Policy, Utah Farm Bureau; Jay Olsen, UDAF Environmental Specialist/ACES Coordinator; Doug Bateman,  dairy farmer, Levan, Utah;  Jeremy East, vegetable grower, Layton, Utah. 
 
When:  3:00 p.m. - Wednesday, November 12, 2014
    
Where:  Davis Convention Center, Stratus Ballroom, 1651 North 700 West, Layton, Utah

Why: ACES provides famers with access to information about environmental regulations, and best management practices. 
• ACES benefits consumers by assuring that their local foods are produced under safe environmental practices,
• Improved wildlife habitat
• More sustainable open space
• Improved water quality

Photo opportunities: 4:00 p.m. Layton farmer, Jeromy East will host reporters at his farm to show how ACES would be implemented at his location.   2831 West Gentile St., Layton, Utah.
