REAL TALK FROM REAL FARMERS CONTEST

HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST
Project summary:
The UDAF will accept short videos from Utah farmers or ranchers from mid March through the end of harvest season in late October. The top 10 videos will be identified, and the farmers and their immediate families will be invited to a Thanksgiving celebration at the UDAF offices in Salt Lake City in Mid-November, 2010.
The videos will be posted to the Department’s web site (http://ag.utah.gov) throughout the year as part of the Department’s Agriculture Day celebration.
Deadline: Ongoing. Submit videos early. October 15, 2010 is the absolute deadline, but we encourage you to submit your entries throughout the year. Points are awarded for early entries. Multiple entries are acceptable. If you submit a video then do a better version later, we’ll accept the newer one as your entry.
Guidelines:
Record on digital video-tape. Limit it to about 5 minutes. Show you and your family working on your farm or ranch. Show what you do to clean, feed and take care of your animals or how you protect and work your land. How you plant or harvest your crops.
Talk to the camera when you can, telling us what other Utahns should know about your dedication to the land and “Agriculture.” Tell us what agriculture means to you or your community. All subjects in videos acknowledge they are part of an agriculture promotion event, and that the videos will be put on public display.
Format:
Use a simple digital tape “handycam” type camera. We don’t expect, nor want slick videos like you see on TV. We want real talk from Utah’s real people. We know you like to talk about the goodness of agriculture and its future. Here’s your chance to tell the world. Feel free to have fun with this. Be who you are. Your openness will help tell your story.
We can loan you a camera if you don’t have one.
Contact our Public Information Officer, Larry Lewis if you have questions or need instructions on how to run a camera. (801) 538-7104 or larrylewis@utah.gov
Larry might even be able to help you on the farm if you need him to.
